Prabal Gurung Fall 2013.Some story about Asgarda and martial art behind the show

На сайте Style.com было сказано "A little Googling of our own failed to confirm the authenticity of the Carpathian Mountains' all-female enclave, where women are supposedly trained in the martial arts to build self-confidence "..

-----------------------------------------

I wouldn't do a separate post, on the show Prabal Gurung - designer of Nepalese origin, if not for one circumstance.

Once a reservation, that being a big fan of the style of the military, I rather liked  his collection. Although, some of the models seemed heavy, overloaded the military idea. Because of this the spirit of aggression left, left us with a lot of details. Prabal added a feminine silk dresses. It is clearly his element, soft, flowing fabrics, feminine lines of the silhouette, elegant embroidery..
And now, the story behind the collection. As the designer himself said, he was inspired  by Ukraine's Asgarda tribe while doing Internet research. On the site Style.com it was said "A little Googling of our own failed to confirm the authenticity of the Carpathian Mountains' all-female enclave, where women are supposedly trained in the martial arts to build self-confidence"

Even I being ukrainian, who loves Carpathian Montains region never did hear about such thig. Asgard is the place where gods like Odin,Thor and Loki live..
But Ukrainian warriors???Beautiful  fairy tale that inspired the designer? Therefore, I did google a little "female martial art Asgard" In Ukrainian,of course.the First is a link to Wikipedia confirmed that
"Asgardа - Ukrainian martial art, recreated on the basis of the elements of the traditional Cossack battle, that have been preserved in folk dances, and their own experience of the researcher martial arts  Vladimir Pilate and his students Tarnavskoj.
This art is based on the technique of combat, but it takes into account the anatomic and physiological features of a woman. Girls learn the struggle, the technique and tactics of warfare, possession of various types of weapons and the system of self-defense.
So, my respect to Prabal Gurung, who did do his research and did dig deep enough. I even can see the traditional ukrainian embroideries on the peices of clothes.
